MechNeuro-ASD
The Center for Bioethics and Health Policy will contribute to MechNeuro-ASD, a four-year research project bringing together multiscale brain modelling, paediatric EEG, and clinical assessment to better understand neurodiversity in autism.

Our involvement spans the project's bioethics and dissemination work. We are supporting the qualitative side of the study on how autistic children, their families, and clinicians experience EEG research and emerging neurophysiological biomarkers, and supporting the project’s research and clinical teams to build neurodiversity-affirming practice through training and good-practice guidance. As biomarkers move closer to clinical use, how they are explained, consented to and interpreted matters as much as whether they work. We will also support the project in sharing its findings with clinical, educational, and community audiences.
This project reflects a commitment that spans our work in the neuroadaptive technologies space: that innovation should be human-centered and transparent, and that the people most-affected by it should have a voice in shaping it.
Funding for MechNeuro-ASD has been provisionally awarded by Spain's Agencia Estatal de Investigación, with a final decision expected later in 2026.
Further details on this work can be found on the MechNeuro-ASD project website.
The project is being led by the Neural Engineering and Computing (NECO) Lab at the University of Granada.
